The people of Kogi State have expressed concern over the high rate of insecurity in the state, as the situation is becoming alarming that they can no longer sleep with their two eyes close, and walk freely in and around the state.
The situation getting worse on daily basis such that it has instill fear in so many people not to fall victim of these heartless criminals.
However, residence of the state are no longer safe, of these heinous happenings, people can no longer travel out for important engagements and to see their family residing outside the state for fear of falling into the hands of kidnappers.
To make matter worse, the insecurity problem bedeviling the state, cut across the three senatorial districts including states sharing common boundaries with Kogi State.
Following this trends, in the last two months, it was terrible and horrible along the Lokoja, Karara, Ohono and Koton Karfe road, so horrendous that motorists fell victim of these marauders, to extent a teenage female student was abducted on the same route before her release with payment of ransom.
Sometimes ago, the same scenario happened along Chanawa, Budon, and Kupa when bandits and kidnappers annexed and ransacked some villages before the intervention of security agencies, but rumour making round the mill that the bandits have started resurfacing in the area. To attest to this, recently an unknown gunmen attacked and killed about three security men in Kupa in Lokoja Local Government Area of the state. The same ugly incidence took place in Yagba West Local Government Area where some villages were attacked.
Also, gunmen kidnapped Onyesom Peace Udoka a newly call to bar and her sister around Lokoja – Okene axis of Kogi State but have regained their freedom.
It would be recalled, that when the former Governor, His Excellency, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello was in office, he treated security matter very seriously as no bandits nor kidnappers were spared and given hiding place, he flushed them out of the state.
With all the happenings on security lapses in the state, the people have started weighing the pros and cons between Alh . Ahmed Usman Ododo and Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello’s administration in terms of security. The people also accused and faulted the governor, for staying away from the state and operating the state on proxy from far away Abuja, there by abandon his responsibility for which he was elected.
