The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not lifted the ban on political campaigns. But, aspirants for the House of Representatives in Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency have designed other methods to sensitise and mobilise the people, ahead of the next general elections.

Consultations are going on. Aspirants are organising campaigns through town hall meetings, village square meetings, visits to traditional rulers and community leaders.

Many factors will shape the house of representatives contest. They include the popularity of the political parties, their performance on their previous and present assignments and zoning.

Hon. Aguye was elected as a House of Representatives member in 2025, on the platform of the All Progressive Congress, (APC). He is seeking a second term. The honourable member is campaigning, based on his achievements in the last two years.

But many stakeholders are grumbling that Aguye is scheming for a second term. It appears that they are not impressed by his performance as a lawmaker.

It has been alleged that Aguye is not accessible and does not pick calls. Although his supporters pointed out that he attracted some projects to the constituency. But critics have said that the projects were selective and not viable. They have also questioned where were these projects cited.

Indeed, it is uncertain whether Aguye would secure second term from the people of Lokoja/Kogi federal constituency despite efforts by his supporters to articulate his achievements within the last two years, given the quality of his rivals from his party, APC, ADC and PDP.

However, the people of Kogi Local Government Area are agitating for the house of representatives to come to the area this time around, for the fact that Hon. Shaba Ibrahim did one term and arrangements has been put in place as to which zone within the area to produce the next house of representatives member.

Meanwhile, other aspirants have signified intention to contest for the race from different political parties. They include, Hon. Danladi Bababudon, Hon. Ahmed (Quincy) Comrade Hassan Shu’aibu Ohimozi, Hon. Abdul rafiu and many more yet to declare intention.
